Hi! I’m Emma, a research assistant at the Designing-AI Lab at Cornell working on the intersection of AI and digital agriculture. I also completed my undergrad at Cornell, where I studied Information Science. My past experiences span human-AI interaction research, UX design and research, and front-end web development. Using Information Retrieval and Machine Learning to Inspire Curiosity Driven Learning For Children

The report was written by me with guidance from Dr. Elizabeth Murnane, who mentored this project, where I worked on part of an app that can play “I Spy” games with children. I also got the chance to share my work at the 2021 Virtual Grace Hopper Conference.

Understand People's Perceptions of Creepiness When Interacting With Natural Language Generation

This literature summary on trust, creepiness, and privacy was written by me and I was mentored by Dr. Qian Yang for this project.

Studio Ghibli Movie Catalog

This one of my first front-end web development projects where I made an interactive Studio Ghibli movie catalog (as you might be able to tell from my current profile picture, I am a huge Studio Ghibli fan :)). This was coded on my own. Please don’t delete movies or tags when playing around with the website; otherwise I’ll have to go back and add the information again.

This class project on helping new students meet people during the pandemic was done in collaboration with Richard Cho and Ying Yang. We divided the work evenly throughout each step of the design process, from problem ideation, user research, affinity diagramming, brainstorming, ideation, prototyping, heuristic evaluation, and user testing

Height vs Number of Olympic Medals

This class project done in collaboration with George Jiang and Rikki Chiba. We created static visualizations to analyze the relationship between athelete height and number of Olympic medals won.

Map of Salaries of Fortune 1000 Tech Companies in the United States

This class project done in collaboration with Chelsea Choi, Srishti Tyagi, and Alan Jiang. We created an interactive map visualization that displays information on average salaries in a particular state, the cost of living in that state, and companies’ salaries at their headquarter office.

Reconnecting with old friends on FB Messenger

This is my first UX case study centered around understanding how we can help people reconnect with their old friends through Facebook Messenger. I was the sole designer for this project but received feedback and mentorship from teaching assistants and classmates along the way.
